I had a discussion with @PowerHungryFilm the other day. I asked the question “What are your thoughts on laying out an effective business model?”
She was very helpful in her response and so I decided to comment on her comments in this blog post. Her four suggestions for developing a solid video production business model were:
I thought that these 4 tips were so useful to the video professional in a down turn economy that I decided to take the liberty of expounding on the tips my friend @PowerHungryFilm gave me.
Tip 1: Don’t listen to too much news.
The news always tends to make things seem worse than they are. If we are creative, diligent and good at what we do we can ad will find work. Part of the economic crisis in my opinion is because of the news. The news has caused everyone to panic and to freeze there purse strings, thus influencing the already existent economic recession. Keep moving forward.
Tip 2: Meditate on space between thought as that is source of creation.
Video production professionals are stereotypically artistic people who are somewhat messy and hate doing sales calls. They just want to sit at there desk and tinker with video editing software or stand on a set and tweak lights for hours every day.
Most video production artists are creative and often times clash heads one with another. Well, in this economy I suggest that you follow tip 2. Put your creativity to work for you.
So how do you put creativity to work for you. Take time to meditate and think and create innovative ways to market your products and services. How can you stand out among the competition? Demonstrating the best production qualities and having the best, state of the art equipment are NOT the only ways to stand out among the competition.
Tip 3: Believe in the positive actions of a few good people.
This is huge. One of the reasons why CMG stays in business and is constantly busy is because of a few quality individuals who work well with their clients, work well with each other and are always willing to go the extra mile. Invest in the right people as much or more than you invest in equipment and then believe in your people.
Tip 4: Continue to create value.
Always, always, always continue to find ways to create more value for your client. If your client is creating a product that will be sold find ways to create more and more value. Remember that if your client has faithful customers then your client will become your faithful customer.
Adding and creating value does not always have to cost more money. Last week we posted 6 tips for adding value without costing you or the client more money. Read the post here.

The other day I met @Freeser on Twitter. @Freeser is a young talented videographer and producer. He showed me his site so I checked it out. I watched a couple of his videos which were nicely done.
One of his videos in particular was a video that is an entree in the Brad Paisley Green Screen Challenge. I had never heard of the Brad Paisley Green Screen Challenge so I decided to check it out on youtube.
I watch a handful of entries, including one that was featured on Brad Paisley’s official Youtube page and the best won I saw was this one by @Freeser. I’m not just saying this cause he’s a Twitter friend and this is Twitter Tuesday on the Fresh Fish Footage Blog. His video really was my favorite.
So, enjoy and let us know what you think of the work of @Freeser.
Do you want your work featured on Twitter Tuesday? Leave me a link to see your work in the comments section.
