I’ve been known to say that at a little league tryout, be it in football, baseball or soccer, out of 100 kids you will have maybe 12 that can really play the game.

After watching this video I would say out of 100,000 5 year olds you would be lucky to find one that can play the game of soccer like this 5 year old soccer player from Rio de Janeiro Brasil.

So if 12 out of the 100 kids that play soccer in your little league program can play how do you keep the other 88 kids coming back long enough to develop their skills?

The secret to this is found in my 10 minute audio that I prepared.

This is a sad video for any coach to see.

There is a huge need for good coaches.  Kids now days play less and eat more than ever before.  Unfortunately things like this happen from time to time and discourage good coaches from coaching and making the difference that they are capable of.

Click here for more tips on how to make a difference in the lives of our youth through coaching little league in any sport.

Typical Top 10 List
Posted by admin in Coaching Tips on 03 17th, 2009| | No Comments »

This is the typical top 10 list that a coach or a parent will give you when giving you advice about how to coach kids.

Remember that while this list has value it is not the ten things that will change your program.

Here’s the typical list.

1. Make it fun
2. Have a treat
3. Keep it fair
4. Respect every child
5. Keep practice short
6. Do not keep score, there can be no winners or losers
7. Respect the inner child
8. Never lose control
9. Teach them to play nice
10. Always smile
